Skinning isn't just for leatherworking. It is often used for a source of income in WoW. Many people learn skinning because you can sell the leather for good money. From killing a creature you gain anything from a leather scrap, to a leather hide. Most commonly you will gain a simple leather, such as light leather or medium leather. Just like everything selling a full stack of these will go for more than selling just a few. When you sell leather you should look at the current auction going prices for your item. When you sell your leather, try to undercut the regular price by 5-10%. This way people will buy your leather before others. From selling medium level leathers I gained around 50g in under 3 hours.
